As a solution to housing shortages faced by veterans returning from World War II, Charles Cannon of the Cannon Mill Company brought in 100 four-room prefabricated homes for soldiers working in the mill and their families. Each home was constructed in one day and measured 20 by 24 feet. The last remaining unchanged home became the GI Memorial Home museum and is furnished with items from the post-WWII era. Free admission.
